Where to find Tsukikage Ran
DVD Collection
Aired in 2000 on cable channel WOWOW, this 13-episode series has been compiled into four DVD volumes, as well as a Complete DVD Collection.
I applaud the subtitling work of the English version. The translation is sometimes liberal, but I find that it often adds pizzazz to the dialogue. I thoroughly enjoyed the stories, and I know a good portion was due to the translation. The English voice acting is commendable, and holds the entertaining value well… which says something, because Meow’s dialogue in particular can range from fervent to goofy to psychotic within a single exchange.

- Video clip snippet (16Mb, 5:30 mins) - Low quality Xvid format. This clip was taken from episode 1, and pretty much reflects the typical characteristics and roles of Ran & Meow. And if, like me, you were blown away by the action choreography, hold your knickers because scenes like this abound throughout the series.
- Animated Flash snippet (600k) - “They say the only cure for stupidity is death. Would you like to die once?” offers Ran. An example of how quickly Ran disposes of her opponents. Here, three guys are downed with two swings of the sword.
- Kazemakase - TV opening theme.mp3 (1.3Mb) - performed by Misawa Akemi. My husband and I sing along to this at the beginning of every episode. It really sets the mood as we settle into the show.
- Zoom player - A free but excellent media player that can view frame-by-frame very nicely. You can even configure the shortcut keys in the Advanced Options for added convenience. Perfect for relishing those samurai moves again and again.
